Common Questions | Why Is My Honda CR-V Blowing Warm Air?

Is My A/C Broken?

If your Honda CR-V is blowing warm air out instead of cold air, there are a couple parts in within the A/C system that may be causing this. We'll go through a few of them here to give you a better understanding of why your car's A/C system isn't performing optimally.

Low Refrigerant Levels

Refrigerant is a special fluid in your cars A/C system that helps make the air conditioner blow cool air. It does this by starting as a low pressure gas, which is then pressurized by the condenser. Once pressurized, the refrigerant becomes incredibly hot and is funneled into the condenser. Here, the condenser quickly cools the refrigerant and passes it to a metering device that reduces its pressure, causing the refrigerant to cool even more. This cold refrigerant then enters the evaporator and absorbs heat from the cabin air, making the cabin cooler. Finally, this cold air is blown back into the cabin, giving you the feeling of cool A/C air. If you have low refrigerant such as from a leak in your hose or condenser, your A/C system will be unable to generate cold air, and will instead just keep cycling warm air.

The Compressor

Warm air can also be caused by a faulty compressor. The compressor is used in the first step of your A/C unit to pressurize refrigerant and turn it into the hot, high pressure gas needed by the condenser. If your compressor fails or seizes up, it is unable to correctly pressurize the refrigerant. From here the refrigerant never gets to the cold temperature it needs and the A/C blows warm air instead.

Next Steps

These are just a couple of reasons why your Honda CR-V is blowing hot air from it's A/C. It is important when taking care of your Honda CR-V to always be checking for any loose parts or worn out pieces of the vehicle, especially if something isn't working correctly like you A/C system. Ignoring your cars general maintenance can lead to major problems later on as damaged parts may then also damage other nearby components, while also compromising the vehicles ability to drive.
