The 2018 Honda Odyssey Wins Top Safety Pick, Here's Why

The all-new 2018 Honda Odyssey is easily a family favorite with its accommodating and impressive redesign, extensive infotainment system, and smooth driving capabilities. It looks and feels great, but the real excitement is in the safety features. After all, keeping your loved ones safe should be top priority, right? The 2018 Honda Odyssey was recently acknowledged with an award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) for Top Safety Pick+ (when it is equipped with Honda Sensing® and LED headlights). We already know this minivan is awesome so let’s get into the details of Honda’s Sensing safety features.

Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)

This feature allows the driver to utilize cruise control in a light traffic environment. It will detect other vehicles and maintain space and a set following interval

Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMCS)

This system can detect objects ahead, determine whether or not a potential crash may take place and then alter the driver in multiple ways (audibly and visually) and will assist in light braking if needed. If the driver does not take action, the system my initiate a hard brake to reduce potential for impact.

Forward Collision Warning (FCW)

This feature is very similar to the CMCS, as it will detect an object ahead and launch a sequence of warnings to the driver in order to avoid a collision.

 Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS)

This is a great feature that helps the driver stay in the middle of a lane. It utilizes multiple cameras that work together to keep the car from drifting into other lanes. The system is helpful, but will not steer for the driver. It can sense whether or not a driver us using the steering wheel and will alter them to begin steering if he/she is not.

 Road Departure Mitigation (RDM)

Cameras are used here as well. They will search for road marks, such as lines and dotted lines and will alert the driver if it detects that the driver is about to cross a solid line, for example. If the driver doesn’t take action, the RDM will guide the vehicle back into its detected lane.

Other features include: Vehicle Stability Assist, Multi-Angle Rearview Camera and Driver's and Front Passenger's Knee Airbags!
